Mediterranean Sea Is The Most Polluted Sea In The World

Mediterranean sea is the most polluted sea in the world, wrote Spanish newspaper "El Pais" on Monday, referring to the leading scientists and nature defending organizations.
"The waters of Mediterranean sea are polluted with petrochemicals and other waists, especially in the area next to the huge port cities. It becomes dangerous for human health" - is quoting a powerful Spanish periodical edition.
According to the international organization Greenpeace and Spanish World Ocean Research Institute, every cubic metre of Mediterranean water contains 33 various waist kinds. But every litre contains 10 grammes of petrochemicals.
Every year more than 400 tones petrochemicals intentionally or accidentally are blown into the waters of Mediterranean sea; every kilometre of the ocean bed is covered with 1900 objects being waists of human activity, - is noticed in the article.
Plastic waists, with a very high concentration by the coastline perform a special hazard for Mediterranean flora and fauna. The most polluted coastal region in Spain is considered Barcelona with its surrounding regions (the north-east) and Alhesiras (the south of the country).
And it is not only because of the fact that every year 12 thousands vessels (20% of which are tankers) furrow Mediterranean sea, the main reason is wastes emitting from coasts.
150 million people inhabit the coast of Mediterranean sea. Another 200 million every summer come to rest here. In many countries sewerage waists are emitted into the sea. Also the pollution happens because of rivers falling into the sea, - informs "El Pais".
Ecologists don't have any doubt that fish and other seafood from the Mediterranean Sea is also polluted. Moreover, some species of sea inhabitants, especially tuna and sward fish concentrate in their organism mercury, a Mediterranean sea pollution product, very poisonous for humans.
