The Different Forms of Water Pollution

The problem of pollution is threatening to shorten our seemingly short existence on our once beautiful planet. With industrialization becoming the trend of the current age it is hard to ever imagine the world without industries. However, even though industries are an important part of society they are not doing the world any good in the way they dispose of their industrial waste. But the problem of pollution cannot be blamed on factories alone. There are different forms of water pollution depending on which level of society you are focused on.
The first type is industrial pollution. Industrial pollution is the scary phenomenon whereby the useless end products of industrial manufacturing processes are dumped into various water sources. The pollution itself differs in nature but generally old grease, poisonous end products of manufacturing processes and even waste paper are well known pollutants. Such pollutants are normally dumped into the sea, rivers and streams.
Oil spills like the historic one we just recently experienced is another example of the pollution of vital water bodies. When you think hard about it pollution of this kind is rather unavoidable because of the inappropriate location of oil rigs. Inherent defects in the various storage media for crude oil can bring about oil leaks responsible for killing sea life at an alarming rate. Since the accurate detection of faults in storage containers is never always possible avoiding disasters can be difficult.
Sewer waste can also end up in various water reservoirs. Broken sewer pipes can unleash millions of cm3 of sewer waste every day into water bodies if they are not reported on time. Sometimes this kind of pollution is a direct result of pipes being inadequate to cope with the amounts of sewer waste travelling through them.
But in rare instances this kind of pollution is brought about by sewerage pipes being packed with too much paper, thereby causing the blocked pipes that eventually burst. So to prevent this it is important to use toilets properly by using the right type of paper, which is of course tissue paper.
There are times when abattoirs dump rotten meat, blood and of cuts into dams, rivers and lakes. Sometimes the dumping is not as direct as that. It is very easy for flowing blood and abattoir filth to end up in a river. When this happens water reservoirs can become polluted.
The pollution of water is a scary trend as it can cause the death of important water species and bring about illness in humans. Therefore it is very important to keep it at bay before disasters like the recent one become a normal part of life.
